Solid work boots

While I typically don't contribute in these spaces, I am compelled to make an exception in the case of these wonderful boots. An avid mountaineer, I work as a land surveyor and thus am pretty hard on boots: Daily use, muddy construction sites, wet lowland areas, steep slopes, asphalt highways, salty sidewalks, and manhole covers are some of the things that, over time, conspire to destroy the footwear of people in this line of work. Not so with these beauties. Purchased from ST in 2006, my current pair has stood up to this kind of abuse for several years of repetitive field use. A little Sno Seal, carefully applied, has kept the uppers of my pair in great condition; the sole is slowly working its way toward replacement. Plus, where else today can you find a true Norwegian welt--all but an anachronism these days--and such functional classical styling? My one complaint, perhaps, is that the Vibram is so hard that it prevents even marginal purchase on ice and other smooth, slippery surfaces. But though I paid $179 for my current pair, I'll likely spring for whatever ST is charging in the future. Bottom line: As a daily work boot that will face a variety of conditions, these are, hands down, the best boots I've come across.
