Larry The Logger gives a thumbs up.

I was nervous about buying these boots after reading the reviews about all the pain endured breaking them in. On the first day of work as a logger I loved them and had no discomfort, so I'm like what's all the fuss? Stiff is what you want to get a good foothold under heavy loads and on rugged ground especially when a chainsaw is buzzing around you. I noticed the difference right away from a mountaineering boot and a traditional west coast logging/firefighter boot which flex more. Waterproof? Despite every manufacturers claim I would never wear anything but rubber (with caulks) under very wet conditions, or rubber with a leather upper. Unfortunately the last reviewer found this out the hard way.
As far as the discomfort people are talking about I think too many people are used to synthetic, glued together boots which are light and comfortable the first day but, in my view, never hold up when put in extreme conditions and are not rebuildable.
