TANKS

These things are tanks! They have really stiff uppers that appear to be very durable. They are really cool and classic looking and make many new styles of boots look ridiculous, techno, and wimpy. I bought them for forestry and occasional wildland firefighting. They would serve these purposes well but they did not work for me. I found that the so-called 3/4 shank places the "flexpoint" of the boot in a weird spot that squashes and irritates my toes. They seem to be 7/8 length. They should redesign the shanks to be lighter (nylon, not steel) and either full-length or something else. The leather right below the laces over the toes is rather thin compared to other boots I have tried. Also, these really are heavy. I would not recommend these for most people. They need to be seam sealed and treated as their wet weather performance sucks. I previously wore La Sportivas and Scarpas, both of which are heavy duty but nearly a pound lighter per boot. I did try a couple of climbs with them and they are stable and solid on uneven ground and snow (kicking steps and boot-skiing), but like I said, the toe thing and the heaviness forces me to look for something else.
