Verified Buyer Reviewed by Solidago from U.P. of Michigan on Monday, October 2, 2017I have been frustrated with how the quality of hiking boots has been going downhill over the past ten years or so. Boots with soles glued to the leather may be cheaper to make than boots with stitched-on uppers, but they just don't last anymore. So I decided to stop getting new hiking boots every couple of years because they just don't last, and spring for a stitched boot. Limmers are hard to get and there's often a long wait for custom boots (and the nearest Limmer dealer to the U.P. of Michigan is who knows how far away), so I chose another top brand, Alico. I can only review them based on using them for a month or so. I ordered a half size up (11W rather than 10.5W), and they fit fine. I did add an extra insole. They are stiffer than many new boots I've bought, but have had no problem breaking them in with short day hikes of 2 to 6 miles. I would not want to start out on a rugged backpacking trip with them right out of the box, but that's not a good thing to do with any new hiking boots. So far, I have zero complaints.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Mountain Newbie from Rhode Island on Monday, July 31, 2017Took very little break-in: a few hikes and a day or two walking around town before tackling the Rockies. Scuffing up and looking cool. Glove leather lining is soft but strong. No blisters. True to size.
Reviewed by George from Fwb fl on Tuesday, July 4, 2017Bought these boots for hiking the Camino Santiago De Compostela. They did great no blisters held up good to an all day rain. The more I walked the more comfortable they became. At the end I noticed a separation on the heels from the boot. Called sierratraiding post for advice was told to contact alico. Great boot disappointing on the customer service. Took to a shoe repair place problem fixed.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Oliver from Washington on Friday, June 23, 2017Good boot, solid construction, comfortable. I'm a 12.5 shoe with a wider foot, but a thirteen works solid when I wear two pairs of socks (recommended for comfort). I added an insole, and bought leather preservative and will continue to apply it after trips. Great grip on hard-packed trails and boulder-y paths.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by JustMe from Missouri on Thursday, June 22, 2017I had to order a man's boot because the Alico boots for women were not available in my size. Thanks to your sizing information, I was able to order the correct size. I love my boots, they are very sturdy and comfortable.Probably the last boots I will ever have to buy, unfortunately, I was very satisfied with ever aspect of my purchase from Sierra.

“Good day, i have been having issues with hiking boots probably because of the new aged rubber protection for the toes that most have these days . Ive now decided to go for a old traditional leather type boot like the Alivo summits, i guess what id like to know is will the thick leather eventually mold to my toe for more comfort ? I struggle on the down hills with the new modern boots and i get painful bruised toe nails. ”
I have not had any trouble with bruised toenails. The toebox is reasonably roomy. You will also want to make sure the fit is good so your foot does not slide forward.
I think if you keep the leather well conditioned and wear the boots a lot, you'll get the leather to conform to your toes. Everyone's toes are shaped differently of course, but one of the things I like about these boots is the blunt rounded toe rather than a narrow toe section. As a result, you get less toe pinching. These boots will definitely conform to your feet more than molded rubber, nylon, and suede boots. As long as the length and width are correct, you're good to go.
“What is the measurement in inches of the width of the insole for the size ten and also for the size ten wide?”
“Can someone tell me how tall these are measured from the ground to the highest point? Also seems like some people say fit true and others say go a little big, i will be putting green superfeet insoles in, my left big toe needs room, i normally wear 8 1/2d in shoes, thanks.”
The upper is 6" from the top of the sole to the ankle collar. If measured from the ground it is 7 3/8."
"Fit true" can mean snug to some and a little roomy to others. I wear 11.5 D and ordered 11.5 M. They were just right with medium weight socks and a Spenco insole, ( the insole they come with is thin and a bit stiff). The toe box is, IMO, just right in that I can easily wiggle my toes, but my feet do not move back or forward on steep terrain.
The total height is about 7 1/2". According to information listed under the product Overview/Specs:
Heel height: 1-1/2"
According to our fit team this item is running true to size.
