I just picked me up another pair of Alico Summits... and this is the 5th pair of Alico boots that I have purchased. I currently have 2 Alico Tahoes, 1 Alico Guide and now 2 Alico Summits and I can honestly comment on each and every model.

The Alico Tahoe is a good overall hiking shoe that is very c... Read More

I'm happy with this boot most thing just except how it protects my feet at winter Catskill track in New York.

Full disclosure - I have only had these boots for one day and have only worn them for about 6 hours while around the house and walked about 1/2 mile. However, these are impressive boots. They are very solid with great ankle support and from what I can tell are true to size. The fit is good with solid hookup in the ankle and heel and plenty of room in the toe box. I have a medium to narrow foot and the medium D width provides a good fit with one pair of Costco (kirkland brand) merino wool hiking socks. Points of interest from other reviews to confirm or dispell:
They are "seconds" - I cannot find anything on these to suggest that they may be seconds. The leather is perfect, stitching is perfect from what I can see.
The lace locks don't work - mine work just fine, like every other lace lock I have used.
They are stiff - Yes they are, but they are supposed to be. They seem comparable to similar boots I have owned and I don't foresee an exceptional break in period.

I had 3 pair of the Eastern Mountain Sports Traverse boots back in the 90's. I don't know who made them for EMS but they were bomb proof. These are at least as good in quality and cost half what I paid back then. So far I am super pleased with the quality and value of these boots.

I have been frustrated with how the quality of hiking boots has been going downhill over the past ten years or so. Boots with soles glued to the leather may be cheaper to make than boots with stitched-on uppers, but they just don't last anymore. So I decided to stop getting new hiking boots every couple of years because they just don't last, and spring for a stitched boot. Limmers are hard to get and there's often a long wait for custom boots (and the nearest Limmer dealer to the U.P. of Michigan is who knows how far away), so I chose another top brand, Alico. I can only review them based on using them for a month or so. I ordered a half size up (11W rather than 10.5W), and they fit fine. I did add an extra insole. They are stiffer than many new boots I've bought, but have had no problem breaking them in with short day hikes of 2 to 6 miles. I would not want to start out on a rugged backpacking trip with them right out of the box, but that's not a good thing to do with any new hiking boots. So far, I have zero complaints.

Took very little break-in: a few hikes and a day or two walking around town before tackling the Rockies. Scuffing up and looking cool. Glove leather lining is soft but strong. No blisters. True to size.

Bought these boots for hiking the Camino Santiago De Compostela. They did great no blisters held up good to an all day rain. The more I walked the more comfortable they became. At the end I noticed a separation on the heels from the boot. Called sierratraiding post for advice was told to contact alico. Great boot disappointing on the customer service. Took to a shoe repair place problem fixed.
