“A customer review by "USA" in 2009 suggested that applying a waterproofing treatment will harm the boot's stitching, and that applying leather oil will soften the boot too much. I have heard from others to do both of these, though. Do you have a sense of what is best to do with these Alico Summit's? Will applying these treatments harm the boot, or does it generally come down to personal preference? Thanks for any help.”
It is somewhat a personal preference. The best way is to make sure that after you let the treatment sit on the boot for a little time, wipe off the excess with a clean, soft rag to keep it from making the boot extra soft. Leather stretches naturally so with time the boot will become soft whether you treat it or not, but the leather lasts longer if you treat it with oil.
