Are you a dinosaur?

Are you a dinosaur? I am, when it comes to hiking boots. Nylon mesh hiking boots are certainly better suited for weekend backpacking trips. However, I like leather hiking boots and bought these to replace a pair of 18 year old leather boots that served me well for countless miles on the trail and around town.

These boots are ridiculously heavy, very stiff, require custom or at least replacement footbeds, and have a very long break in time. In addition, the boots are overkill for about 95% of the hiking I do. But I love them. The boots are very well made, the leather is very thick and very rugged. However, the fit is somewhat unusual, which did cause some concern at first. I was unaccustomed to the large toe box, but eventually came to like the extra room. From all appearances the boots seem to be very wide, but the side of my foot rubbed against the boot in a manner that is very difficult to describe. I took a chance and decided to keep the boots and the unusual fit has not been a problem so far. I can't say at this point that they are extremely comfortable because of the long break-in time required, but I have not experienced any foot pain or had any blisters as a result of wearing the boots.

I was not familiar the Alico brand boots and I don't know if they will last 18 years like my last pair of hiking boots, but from the looks of them, I am betting they will come close.
