Great boots! You can tell the quality of construction as soon as you open the box. I replaced my Vasque Alpine hikers after they dried out and shrank when put too close to a wood stove. I'm a size 8.5 and ordered a 9(M), which were way too big, even with extra socks. STP's easy return policy replaced with an 8.5(M), and they are quite roomy still, even with a Smartwool sock and medium hiking sock. They are full leather, inside and out! I really appreciate the soft leather inner-liner, which does not have a seam at the heel. My Vasque Alpine's had a nylon liner which eventually wore through, causing a painful blister point behind the heel. These have a smooth leather liner which allows my heel to move naturally, and does not bind or create heel blisters.

A couple of points: These do take a little breaking in, but they were also super comfortable on my first day of hiking. With time, they will meld to your foot. I would definitely toss the insole which comes with the boots; it is flimsy and almost worthless. I spent a small amount for Superfeet Green insoles, and they make these boots the best I've ever owned. Replacing with a quality insole or orthotic is a must.

These boots are all-natural leather without a Gore-Tex membrane. I purchased the Nikwax leather waterproofing, and have applied several coats. After six straight days of hunting in 8" of wet snow, my feet stayed dry and warm every day. Without treatment, they will get wet, but the single-leather outer does not have many seams. Be sure to apply lots of waterproofing around the sole stitching.

These boots have performed better than expected after six days of rough, Rocky Mountain hunting with a heavy pack, through snow and blowndown trees. The sole is sturdy, re-soleable, and gives confidence in unsure footing. They are not heavy. I imagine they may be warm in the summer, but the all-leather construction does breathe. They were toasty warm in the snow. I love them!
