I like many others have been wandering eBay trying to obtain an Old-School classic style Vasque, Asolo, Raichle mountaineering boot that fit. After three seperate tries I was not having much luck when to my surprise I came across the Alico Summit and it was exactly what I wanted. Hiking in the heavily forrested Cumberland Plateau and Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee presents it's own particular challenges for footwear. It's rocky, rooty, and quite often rainy mud-soaked terrain and rollercoaster weather can be quite hard on boots. And although I am currently using Asolo 520's which are holding up fine; I wanted something that once I went through the initial break-in period would give me a little more support in other types of use as well the resoling ability of the Norwegian welt. The lineage and quality of this Italian company are one of the best and last of Old World European bootmakers like Limmers here. ( Ask them if they know anything about mountains and hiking.) And as the desposible, corperate market place replaces the neighborhood cobbler; I would like to have at least one pair of this type of boot that is more like a friend that grows better with age; not something you just throw away when you are done with it to be replaced it with something new.
