Being a fan of leather hiking boots and the qualities they offer, I did some extensive research and searching around to find the boot I wanted by my side for the next decade and a half. After wearing vasque's and being unimpressed with their new products, I began looking into Asolo's and then finall... Read More

Years ago, I owned a pair of "old school" hiking boots that weighed almost 3 pounds each. They were very comfortable, incredibly well made "tanks" and are probably still setting in someone's closet today. The Summit Light's share some of the same attributes and quality of my old boots; leather lined, great leather uppers and a re-buildable sole, but they are REALLY light weight. I have three other pairs of hiking boots made by very reputable manufactures and the Alico Summit Lights compare very favorably. While the soles are thinner than two of my other boots, I see not reason why they will not be every bit as reliable.

They have a generous toe box that allows me to wear evenly the heaviest socks comfortably. I can't say that about my other hikers. I've had them on three short hikes and I am still in the break-in mode but, I am really impressed. I know they are closeouts, but I can highly recommend them.

These are the best fitting and best made hiking boots I have ever had on my feet. I have tried them out on several hikes in the mountains and they proved to be exceptionally comfortable--no blisters or sore feet afterward. They also look very cool! Kudos to the Italian boot makers! La dolce vita!

These are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. Great for getting to those high mountain streams to throw a fly to native cutthroat trout. They are made of high quality leather inside and out with Vibram soles. Made in the Dolomites by Italian craftsmen; it doesn't get any better than that! These boots are lighter in weight as the soles are not as heavy as other Alico boots. They are true to the Italian spirit, "La dolce Vita!"

Comfortable with little break in. Lighter than other leather boots but still seem durable.

A great boot for fashion or every day wear. Not as rugged as it appears in the photos. I probably wouldn't wear this boot for real hikes, especially with a pack.

  • “What's the difference between these and the Tahoes?”
Asked by Tom from Seattle on 4/5/2016 7:52:03 PM
    • The Alico Tahoes have a thicker sole and has a Gortex like lining. These Alico Summit Lights have a much thinner sole, but has the same leather lining as the regular Summits. The Summit Lights are also much lighter than the Tahoes. The only reason why I bought these initially was that it had a lighter color I wanted to try. My mistake after I got them was putting on some Obenauf boot oil which only darkened them : (
The Tahoes are a much better boot for hiking as the soles are thicker. So far I have only used the Summit Lights at the office and weekends... very comfortable shoe and easy to break in.
      Hope this helps.
      Aloha!

    • A few of the differences are weight, a bit more toe room in the Lights, Tahoe has a tougher feel, but it was tougher on the foot also. Tahoe is more on the line as Summits by way of design and thickness, the Lights seem a step up in class, all are well made and if the fit is right? should last a long time.
The slightly finer leather of the Light, waterproofing, better looking in person than the photo, closer to an American fit in the 10W did it for me.

    • The Lights photo shows a bit more narrow shape, actually the 10W has more toe room than the Tahoe in 10W.
The Tahoe photo shows more of a round toe shape, the pair that I tried the toe was more similar to the photo of the Lights (more narrow), I double checked as I thought is was reversed between photo and actual boots on both pair.

  • “Are these Norwegian-welted like the regular Summits?”
Asked by Doug from Colorado on 2/25/2016 12:36:02 PM
    • Hey Doug,
Yes, a little lighter and more flexible, the same double stich welt, same high quality.
The day before I got my Summit Lights, the Summits had arrived, same high quality, same stich, heavier duty boot.
I still want a pair of Summits, I just need that perfect fit as I found with the Lights.

    • The sole is thinner and lighter. You gotta have sole baby! But sometimes you don't need as much - if the terrain isn't rough and you're not carrying a heavy load these will do the trick.
Answered on 2/7/2016 9:08:21 AM by Johnny Freeheeler from New England
    • Well, the Summit seems like twice as thick all around, (same great quality), it is a "beefy" boot!.
The morning they came in, I picked one up and noticed the strength of the leather and high quality construction, very strong and stiff feeling, might take a bit to break in, but if the fit is right?, well worth the time. The sole is thicker as the photo shows, what the photo does not show is the actual toughness of boot in general. Very tough boot, I look forward to having a pair, I am considering between the Summit and the Tahoe as I write this answer. Pretty sure I will have both. I am enjoying the Summit Lights at the moment.

    • We do have this item available in wide width.
Answered on 12/29/2015 9:33:59 AM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • I got these in 10 wide, there is room for a wide or fat foot, the insoles are not real curvy so it would help with "flat feet", if the small support is a bit to much for your liking, try some flat type insoles and you should be good to go.
