I now own and have used all three alico boots offered at sierra - Summit, Tahoe and Guide. I have hiked at least 200 miles in each style from steep to flat, soft to rocky, wet and dry. These boots were clearly made by very experienced professionals and the workmanship of these Italian cobblers is si... Read More

I have been wearing these boots as everyday footwear for three months now. I chose them because of their traditional construction and Vibram soles, which can be replaced at some point if needed.

Out of the box, they were quite stiff. Because of their construction, breaking in took some time, it was probably two weeks before they were really flexible at the toes and ankles. I used Danner boot dressing as part of the break-in process; this helped considerably. I also deliberately bought them larger and wider than I'd normally need to accommodate my widening feet and the use of insoles for my bad arches. (Note, the arch support is good as is, but my feet really need the extra support.)

I rate these boots very highly. They are extremely well constructed and I suspect they'll last for quite a long time. If the welts outlast the soles, then any good shoe repair shop should be able to resole them. If there is anything negative, it is that they tend to be noisy when wearing them around the house. I no longer hike and so am unable to give an opinion of how these boots would work on the trail, under the load of a pack. But for my purposes, they are what I want and need.

I wore these boots for a week before a hunting trip in South Dakota to break them in. Initially they were comfortable and have a really nice look and feel to them. The Vibram sole was great.
The boots were worn for 2 days on a pheasant hunting trip in less than an inch of snow one day and no snow the next day. The entire front of the boot lost all color and they became a bright tan color. Maybe the leather is dyed?
Both soles began to pull away from the boot and water began getting in between the sole and the boot...some wet feet were the outcome. Very disappointed in how these boots performed.
The look of the boot is spot on, but the quality of this boot is awful. Maybe I got a bad batch, but how they looked after 2 days of hunting in not very extreme conditions was more than enough to return the boots.

I've been looking for a good pair of hiking boots that could also serve as general work boots and for walking to work in snowy conditions. These fit the bill nicely. They're heavy duty, but not too big or heavy. The soles have great grip. The leather is breaking in nicely and is very water resistant (water beads up the instant it hits the shoe). My only complaint (which is now resolved) is that the leather on one of the shoes initially bent near my big toe in a way that was uncomfortable, but with some additional use and manual breaking in, it's no longer a problem. I also worried about them being too warm. My feet sweat pretty easily, but with a sock liner, I haven't had any problems on this front either. My feet have stayed drier in these than they do in my other leather shoes and dress boots. Size wise, I usually have to wear a 13 to find something wide enough but the size 12 in 2E have plenty of room in the toe box. They've also loosened up a bit after wearing them a couple of days. Initially, I worried they were a hair to narrow, but they're perfect now. For some, they may have too much room. (Though, when I tried on an 11 2E at the store, they were way too snug.)

    • I have purchased several pairs of the Alico Tahoe Hiking Boots and found the color to be consistent and as displayed in the images.

They are also very comfortable hiking boots and easy to break in.

    • The lighter color is currently out of stock. Due to the nature of the closeout business, we often receive items in limited quantities. Therefore, some sizes and colors can sell out quickly. Occasionally we are able to reorder a product, but closeout items are typically unable to be reordered. We suggest signing up for the My Updates as the best way to monitor incoming products. • Hi Nick,

I usually wear a 10.5 wide USA and because of several reviews I read, I ordered a half size up and they fit perfectly. I couldn't be more pleased. I have hiked around 100 miles in them and they are great. I hope that helps.

    • According to our fit team this item is running true to size. We recommend you go with whichever size you wear most, or with hiking boots.

    • I feel that these boots fit very true to size. Whatever you know your size to be, that size should fit. I have a wide foot and thus I routinely order men's boots despite being a Sheila. My husband has the same boots and he has a narrow heel. We agree that the toe box is a tad on the generous side, but he got the regular width and had no heel slippage. I change out the insole for superfeet which takes up a bit of the excess space. In general these are great fitting, quick break-in boots for a heavy quality boot and I recommend them highly. I work trail crew full time for the US Forest Service and over 14 years I just bought my 3rd pair.

  • “Are these boots gortex?”
Asked by David from NC on 4/20/2017 5:50:38 PM
    • No, they are not gortex lined but are high quality Italian leather. My previous boots were goretex lined but the mid sole failed so this time I got boots that are re-soleable. I treat the leather with Obenauf's heavy duty leather preservative which makes them waterproof.

    • I purchased the Alico Summit, and like the Tahoe, they are not Gortex. However, the leather is tanned specifically by Alico to be waterproof. Alico calls it "Anfibio". This is "old school" leather which actually should be cooler to the feet than Gortex. The trade-off is that you will just have to periodically rub the boots with a leather balsam to retain the waterproofing. With leather, you should always apply regular applications of a balsam anyway: the leather will look good, become softer, and last much longer. My Summits are also lined with leather, so I also balsam the liner when I do the outside. I use Renapur, but there are other products that work with leather at a lower price.

    • No, and thank Yahweh for that! These are very good quality and deserve the break in and maintenance that this suggests.
Stay away from Gortex and your life will improve beyond measure!...
