These boots are terrific, they look and feel quite good. BUT, they have absolutely no arch. I had to send them back for that reason; my days of orthotics in every shoe are over. On the day I received these boots, I also received a pair of Keen hiking boots. The Keens were softer to the touch, w... Read More

I tried on and returned 3 pairs of made-in-China hiking boots and was just disgusted by the quality. So glad I found these! Made in Italy and the soles will be easily replaced once worn out. I wear a 7.5 dress shoe and 8 boot. I got the 8 and they fit true to size.

There are a lot of reviews of these and I think they paint a pretty accurate picture.
The workmanship is impeccable and these have a nice utilitarian look to them.
Based on some of the reviews, I was kind of expecting heavy leather mountaineering boots, flexible as iron and just as heavy.
    They aren't.
They're boots. They're heavy. But they're not noticeably heavy or cumbersome. They feel a little clunky - I wouldn't want to wear them around small children drawing on the floor out of fear of stepping on small fingers. I have a pair of winter hunting boots that are much, much heavier. These feel fine strolling around the house.
I agree that there's A TON of room in the toe-box. I usually wear an 11 to 11.5. I got the 11s and they feel fine but my toes were swimming a bit. I got a pair of Pedag Viva insoles from Amazon and they snugged things up perfectly.

These boots are amazing!! I bought these boots in preparation for a month long Eurotrip, hiking in the Alps, and many long days of walking cobblestoned streets. In my hunt for boots before the trip, I knew I needed a good, supportive hiking boot, but was also hoping to find something somewhat cute to wear! I scoured REI and other outdoor stores and I either found very functional (but ugly!!) hiking shoes/boots, or very cute and fashionable boots that I knew would do me no good. Thankfully my search led me here and I found these perfect boots! They are stylish with a classic look, but give you everything a good hiking boot should. So supportive! I also am very prone to foot troubles, pain and blisters, and I amazingly avoided any problems during our entire trip! Thanks to these amazing boots. I cannot wait to do more hiking and exploring in them!!

I usually wear a 7 and ordered 7.5 knowing that I need to wear some special supports and padding for my feet, and they fit perfectly! For a normal person planning to wear just one pair of good socks, they would be true to size!

I did replace the insoles with my own custom insoles. The insoles they came with are very flat. They came right out and made for an easy switch! Everyone has different feet, so needing to put in your own insoles, especially for a good hiking boot, should almost be expected!

I cannot tell you how much I love these boots and am so thankful I found them!!! You will love them!

I really wanted to love these boots. I ordered them after weeks of researching. Unfortunately, my semi-narrow foot felt like I was swimming from mid-foot to the toe. I usually wear a 9-9 1/2. I ordered the 9 1/2, but just found it just too big. After wearing around the house a bit I also was concerned with how it was hitting the front of my ankle. I think the ankle would've broken in, the toe box though was something I decided wasn't quite for me. The quality, workmanship, and materials were all great!

    • According to information listed under the product Overview tab: Sturdy Norwegian welt construction is resoleable
Answered on 1/27/2017 4:35:04 PM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • Yes, of course. They have a Norwegian Welt, and are both bonded to the boot as well as stiched to it. Boots with this type of welt are commonly resoled. They type that cannot be resoled lack a Norwegian (or the other, Goodyear) Welt.

    • Yes! These are the old-fashioned stitched welt type boot. Yay!

    • I'm sorry....I have no idea. The Tahoe's that I got are the first and only Alico boots I've gotten. They are beautiful... both substantial and relatively light. Good all-round hiking boot. Perhaps the Backcountry boots are heavier and heavier-duty... more for long-distance, back-packing, etc.?

    • There are conversion charts on this site, as well as those you can Google. My wife wears a size 7 1/2 tennis shoe (Nike), but I purchased a size 8 1/2 Alico boot for her to accommodate a liner sock and a thick wool sock. She wears the boots often and has broken them in, and tells me they fit perfect and are very comfortable. These are top-quality full grain leather boots, and once you break them in, you won't want to wear anything else for hiking. I have a 6 year old pair of men'should size 14, and they are great

    • I wear an 8 1/2 shoe and usually get a 9 in hiking boots. I went by the STP conversion chart and the boots fit perfectly.

    • I'm a 7 1/2, and I wear Euro 38-39. I ordered these in a 7 1/2, and they fit great. I use (and recommend) and insole, and wear wool hiking socks, and it all fits well.

    • I was worried about that too, but I love them and they don't feel heavy for me. The sole is firm and most of the weight is probably there. I've done some 10 mile hikes in them now, and love them, and feel like they'll last a long time.

    • Yes it's a little bit heavier and stiffer than ordinary boots

    • Initially, a little, yes. These are very-well constructed, top quality (full grain leather, one-piece upper, Norwegian welt), boots. I have a set of size 14 men's, and bought some women'should 8 1/2's for my wife. They take a little longer to break in, but last forever, and break-in and feel just like gloves...but for your feet. My wife told me they felt heavy at first, but now wears and hikes in them all the time. Most importantly, she lowes them and wears them all the time, including just to walk aroundtown.

    • I found them to be extremely heavy and uncomfortable. Never wore them sent them back.

    • These boots do feel somewhat heavier and less flexible than lighter-weight hiking shoes or boots, but in my opinion, they feel a lot more supportive, especially of your ankles. I have weak ankles and arthritis in my feet. Lighter weight hiking shoes and boots just did not feel supportive enough for my feet and ankles. I love the support I get from my Alico leather boots. I replaced the removable insoles that came with the boots with some heat-moldable SOLE inserts from REI. Now they fit my feet perfectly. Another plus is that the soles are sewn onto the boot upper rather than just glued. The glue used on other hiking boots and shoes wears down from exposure to heat, water and friction over time, requiring customers to buy new boots nearly every year. These Alico boots should last for years if cared for well.

    • Actually, for a wonderfully-made, sturdy, all-leather boot, these are extremely light weight! I love them! Much lighter than my Asolo synthetic boots and my old Vasque Sundowners. And, no break-in time needed. I highly recommend them!
