i got these at an excellent price from STP, i liked them so much i bought a pair for my brother. i think they are suitable for carrying backpacking type loads for example an additional 50 pounds. i also have a pair of the next heavier boots from Alico that STP sells (Summits). Tahoes are actually more comfortable and probably the best choice for most hikers with much more flexibility than the Summits.
if i was going backpacking for 7 days in the summer i would take the Tahoes. if i was going for 14 days and there was snow i might take the Summits.
