I previously bought a pair of New Guides for search-and-rescue work but wanted something that would be better suited to off-trail hiking. Several miles of downhill hiking in the New Guides convinced me to get a better walking boot.I have only worn them for one weekend in the woods and so far I am not disappointed. The boots felt great right out of the box. The half shank makes them stiff enough for off-trail work but flexible enough to be a comfortable hiker. A generous helping of Sno-Seal and they're darn near waterproof.The only minuses (aside from not being waterproof, which I knew about before buying):- not fully lined with leather like the New Guides[...]
