High Quality, Stiff at First, Run Large

Really great workmanship on these. Very high-quality, thick leather. Norwegian welt. Nice fabric lining (which I have found to be at least as durable as leather in other boots--and cooler). Alas, they DO run at least one size large. I wear a US 10D in most shoes and even 10.5 in some athletic shoes. The 9.5s in the Alicos fit me--and when wearing standard socks, even these 9.5s are slightly roomy, especially midfoot, at the metatarsals. And I have a somewhat wide foot! Still, better slightly large than too small. Also, I added some aftermarket insoles, and that seems to have filled the extra room.

Re. stiffness: They do feel super-stiff right out of the box, but wearing them around the house for just a couple of days, they're quite comfortable. In fact, I would not say the leather is stiff per se, just thick. Which is good.

The lacing is a bit hard to keep tight as you go up the boot. I would have preferred all hooks and no D-rings. But you can lock in the tightening of the lower laces if you double-loop them back straight across at the top set of D rings or the set below that.

I wouldn't hesitate to take these on any kind of backpacking trip.
