I do a lot of backpacking in the southwest and occasionally other regions, over 1,000 miles per year. I have gone through numerous brands and models of boots and after about two months in these Alico Tahoes and feel certain they are the best overall boot I have ever worn! First fit, the leather was very stiff, but I was surprised how light weight the boots were. I have always used Superfeet inserts and have them in these boots. I broke in these boots with a series of light to moderate hikes on the local trails. After about two weeks (about 40 hiking miles) I took the boots on a moderate backpack trip and they felt like they were custom made for my feet. The leather broke in very nicely to a secure fit and feels surprisingly breathable given they are leather boots. These boots are 100% waterproof. I also noticed they dry out very quickly when on occasion they got submerged (this is in the southwest, though). The lug sole is the classic Vibram design and offers great traction up hill, down hill, on loose debris, rocky terrain, and even on wet surfaces around creeks. They even came with quality laces that stay tied. About the only slightly negative thing I can say about these boots is the lighter brown color was darker in person than it appears on the website.
I have narrow feet and the medium width was a good fit with Superfeet inserts and wool hiking socks.
