Sturdy but so-so compression powers

I used this to pack my kid's Ledge 0 degree sleeping bag. As others have mentioned, it is quite sturdy, especially compared to a waterproof one from sea to summit that I have. The tradeoff for this is obviously a higher weight. Both the ledge bag and my Kelty Tuck 20 degree synthetic bag fit in easily. The issue is that even when the straps are tightened all the way it doesn't compress nearly as much as I'd like. I think that the sleeping bags in the manufacturer's sacks are about 16 inches long. With the straps tightened all the way the medium ALPS bag only goes to about 12 inches. On the other hand, it sounds like the small bag may be too small for a serious synthetic bag.
