Excellent, well-made sleeping pads

This pair of 2.5" thick sleeping pads that velcro together to form a double are a close out by Alps Mountaineering, which have been replaced by their Light series double pad with the same dimensions. The Summit pads feel sturdy, and self-inflated pretty quickly to full firmness right out of the box with a few short puffs to top them off (about 3 minutes for initial inflation). It's great that this double comes as two single pads (with separate stuff sacks) that velcro easily together when you want to sleep in closer proximity to your mate. Also, these discontinued pads come with the added benefit of raised nubs on their undersides, which do a good job of preventing the pads from sliding on your tent floor. (For some reason, Alps eliminated this feature from their Light series double.) The only minor gripe I have is that when the pads are seamed together, sometimes the unmated velcro strip will catch on a sock or other fabric as I walk by it. But this a very minor scruple...so far these pads worked great, stayed firm after a few days, and kept me well-insulated against the cold tent floor. Deflating them wasn't too difficult, and they rolled up nicely into their sacks with the provided elastic straps. The pads do carry some weight, so I'd recommend them for car camping and less so for backpackers.
