Verified Buyer Reviewed by Jordan the Lab guy from Tennessee on Tuesday, May 16, 2017not a regular user of this product or this type of product so I don't necessarily know hwat makes one better than another. I bought it to carry heavy loads from deep in the woods where i can't get a4 wheeler. For that, it works and i do this about twice a year, so take that for what it's worth/
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Danger Fox from Ohio on Monday, January 9, 2017This is my first external frame pack and I'm pleased with my purchase. While I understand it's not the best pack on the market, it's more than meets my needs. The overall quality is good. Stitching seems strong and the nylon is of good quality. My pack size is 18.5" and there's plenty of adjustment for shorter and much longer. I have 2 negatives but I haven't thoroughly tested the pack to confirm. 1 is the plastic spacers between the metal connections. While no critical to pack function I'm concerned about them cracking and falling out, allowing metal on metal contact and wearing the paint. 2 all of the connections between the frame and the nylon use pins with retainer clips which I believe will rattle on the trail making it hard to hear on the trail.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by elk hunter from colorado on Friday, October 28, 2016just got back from our hunt - unfortunately we didnt get the chance to use this for packing out any meat :(
the pack was comfortable to wear and looked capable for the job - maybe next year
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Nevada Joel from Reno, Nevada on Tuesday, September 27, 2016I used this frame pack to pack my elk out of a wilderness area this year. The frame pack was nice until the buckles broke. I had to improvise with P-Chord.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Chris from Colorado on Tuesday, September 20, 2016Haven't tried it with meat yet. Slight manufacturing defect on mine - the holes in aluminum that the height adjusting pin goes into do not line up perfectly so I have to hammer in the pin to adjust. Should be noted there is no load adjusting strap on the top of the shoulders.

“What is the Difference between "
ALPS OutdoorZ Renegade Backpack - External Frame" and "ALPS OutdoorZ 3699998 Commander Freighter Frame"?”
The difference between the renegade and the commander is the name only as far as I can tell. Could not find any info on the renegade so I went ahead and bought it and then bought a pack from eBay, Put them both together with no problem. So far as I can tell the renegade and the commander are the same. One may be an older model.
