not a regular user of this product or this type of product so I don't necessarily know hwat makes one better than another. I bought it to carry heavy loads from deep in the woods where i can't get a4 wheeler. For that, it works and i do this about twice a year, so take that for what it's worth/

This is my first external frame pack and I'm pleased with my purchase. While I understand it's not the best pack on the market, it's more than meets my needs. The overall quality is good. Stitching seems strong and the nylon is of good quality. My pack size is 18.5" and there's plenty of adjustment for shorter and much longer. I have 2 negatives but I haven't thoroughly tested the pack to confirm. 1 is the plastic spacers between the metal connections. While no critical to pack function I'm concerned about them cracking and falling out, allowing metal on metal contact and wearing the paint. 2 all of the connections between the frame and the nylon use pins with retainer clips which I believe will rattle on the trail making it hard to hear on the trail.

I used this frame pack to pack my elk out of a wilderness area this year. The frame pack was nice until the buckles broke. I had to improvise with P-Chord.

Haven't tried it with meat yet. Slight manufacturing defect on mine - the holes in aluminum that the height adjusting pin goes into do not line up perfectly so I have to hammer in the pin to adjust. Should be noted there is no load adjusting strap on the top of the shoulders.
