Verified Buyer Reviewed by Dave from CO on Friday, October 21, 2016This Chinese made Gore-tex pro could have been a great hardshell for me but the sizing was just a bit off. At 5'8" and 175lbs I'm usually a dead-on Medium in DeadBird gear. The Medium in this jacket was simply too snug around the arm pits. Otherwise the length was great and the trim fit worked well everywhere else. I could comfortably wear the Atom LT underneath, except for feeling too constricted in the pits/chest. I exchanged this for a size Large, but that was overall too baggy and long for my frame.
If this jacket fits you well, then I think it's a solid performer. I tend to prefer a smaller hood, as I seldom pull a hood over a helmet.

“Thanks for in advance for any suggestions.
Can this hard shell provide enough room for layering to accommodate extreme cold wind rain with proper layering?
I am looking for hard shell as part of component layer system to go from spring skiing to extreme weather.
I am 36-38 waist, 210lb, 6ft tall, about 44/46 chest XL Jacket size.
This jacket is perfect for spring, temperate weather (light, pack-able, breathable, waterproof).
I am less concerned about abrasion / puncture durability (higher density / weight outer shell) as not mountain / rock climbing) just warmth.
Will this hard shell (with it's fit / cut) accommodate enough base layer (down nano puff, down vest, fleece, etc.) to be used in the more extreme cold conditions (cold blizzard at 12,000 feet skiing).
Or do I need to step (way) up ($) to the heavier line of jackets (used to be AR now SV?) ”
I love this jacket in spring skiing and yes you can layer up but make sure you size up.
I primarily use this jacket for spring skiing with a thermoball jacket. but in winter I use my Alpha SV with a Marmot Zeus down jacket.
You can use it but it might be too short in length to keep the deep snow out.
This should be able to use with layers pretty well. The only size we currently have available is 2XL.
This does not have pit zips.
