So far, great shoe

I've only had the chance to wear these boots walking the dog a few times to break them in, so I don't know yet how they will do with hours of hiking or rough terrain. As other reviewers have said, the sole is a bit stiff, but that's what I would expect from a sturdy, supportive hiking boot. I had to try out a couple different adjustments of the laces for the most comfortable fit, but once I did, I think I could do a decent hike in these in comfort without them being fully broken in. The metal hooks for the laces that are at the top of the foot and the bottom of the ankle have a nice, tight grip on the laces, which means that I was able to adjust the tension I wanted over the top of my foot separate from the tension around my ankle. I think that is a great feature because after hours of walking, the lace tension around my ankles in most boots usually loosens and shifts to make the boots too tight around my feet. I walked through some wet grass in these to test waterproofing, and at first the water beaded up over the mesh fabric areas, but by the end it had absorbed into the outer mesh. My feet stayed dry, but I don't know if they would stay dry in a heavy rain storm. I agree with other reviewers that the boot allows for a medium-wide foot. A really narrow foot might slip around too much in this boot. I wear 6.5-7, and usually I get 7s when I want to accommodate substantial socks. However, I followed the advice of other reviewers and got 6.5, and they are perfect. 7s would have been too large. All in all, I'm very pleased with the boots so far. I've been wanting to upgrade to a lighter (but sturdy/supportive) boot from my heavy leather RedWings that I've had for years, and these definitely do that.
