Best grip, highly adjustable support ,and ankle protection I have experienced in a light hiking shoe

I've used these now on a variety of slopes and trails. and I can recommend them highly. I've worn light hikers for the majority of my hiking, biking and scrambling for years, and I would rate these as top of the pack. Advantages: Great grippy soles on rock (dry and wet, smooth and grainy), loose gravel, and even wet grass shanks. Highly adjustable lace system combined with a protective sole and footbed with good arch support and that wrap up around the foot; given the lacing and built-in flex, these shoes should be adjustable to all but the widest foot shape. They're very light. The upper material is tough and afford very effective protection against rocks, sticks, and spines. They're high enough to cover the ankles nicely, but seem to be cut in a way that completely avoids chafing that you get with a lot of shoes this height. My size 12s fit to size with slightly more than a quarter size to spare. The most unexpected positive is the upper material and laces are both very effective at shedding burrs, grass seeds, and other stickers that commonly infest shoes and boots when walking through grasslands and weedy areas--so you're less likely to be a weed-spreader.

The one downside I would list is actually the flip side of the strongest up-side; that is, it takes a good deal of attention to lace these boots so they best conform to your foot and ankle. I find it's highly beneficial to adjust the lacing every so often depending on terrain and my activity, as well as to compensate for foot fatigue, if any. That adjustability is great, but it does take some time--they aren't just step-into-them-and go boots. I would rate them moderately water resistant, but not so waterproof you'd expect to wade in them more than a few moments and keep dry feet.
