surprisingly solid!

I bought these to be light hikers, but I tend to make poor decisions regularly so found myself hopping along an irregularly spiked ridgeline at 10k with 48 hours of starting on my "test" trip. A few things I noticed:

-the utter lack of clips -- even the upper lace ties use eyeholes -- might mean that it takes you longer to get these babies on and off, but it also means you can very easily customize the tightness and pressure points, but more importantly the boot has a very slim, form hugging profile. I always got tripped up by tie-clips when squeezing between trees or rocks. No more!

-thin but durable leather -- a very big surprise is that after 80 miles of hiking in five days these boots don't have a series scrape anywhere on them. weird

- flexible but solid soles -- as someone who boulders more than is probably entirely healthy, being able to feel the rock through the sole a bit was very handy (and unprecedented with boots in my experience), but the cushion was still sufficient that my first trip didn't generate a single blister -- this is probably by 20th pair of hiking boots and that has never happened

- orange? for boots? hell yeah!
