Excellent for approach hiking, general walking, mountain biking with platform pedals

A light, supportive boot, immediately comfortable, and water proof. These are good for walking, approach hiking with a medium pack, and mountain biking with platform (no cleats) pedals. The laces allow lots of adjustment between toe and ankle/heel. The Vibram sole is grippy without being bulky. I also own the low cut version of these boots and like them very much, too, mostly for mountain biking. The stiffness of the sole is just right: more than a trail runner, less than a heavier hiking boot. I can feel the trail, but get good protection. I have a narrow heel, but the laces lock it down so it doesn't lift when going uphill, but leaving them loose in my toe area keeps it roomy. Asolo boots fit me well and leave room for my orthotic under the insole. Your fit might vary, but FWIW, my foot has a fairly narrow heel in men's 11.5 US size, but I need toe room. These fit me very well. You will find the laces have lots of friction in their holes. You can't just pull on the ends and they tighten, or loosen them with one tug. That makes putting these boots on or taking them off a little tedious, but the friction is what makes the differential toe/ankle/heel adjustment possible, so it's worth it.
