My wife dog and I walk a minimum of 2 miles per day under all weather conditions. We usually take a couple of week-long walking/hiking trips each year, and I wanted a pair of light-weight, waterproof hiking shoes that could be packed easily. The Asolo Contour Gore-tex trail shoes fill the bill, and... Read More

Strong robust shoes. In rainy weather, the feet dry.
    One disadvantage - untied shoelaces.

I've been wearing these now for a few weeks and they very sturdy but comfortable as well. I will be taking them on a fairly brutal hike this weekend and I am hoping for good things. I bought these as I have been growing tired of the heavier hiking boots. I believe these are a good compromise. One things that I noticed is that you want to use thicker socks as the padding is not very "squishy".

I wear these mainly when walking my dog. This is my third pair; I guess I get about 1,000 miles before the soles are badly worn.

The toe box isn't huge. Oddly they were fine until my 2nd pair started to wear out and then they got tight. I blamed it on wearing out, but the 3rd pair is identical to the 2nd pair. Apparently my feet have gotten wider. Oh well.
I use orthotics that take up more room than the included inner sole, so they would probably still be fine with that. Maybe I will go back...

nice shoes look good medium to wide fit with a great ability to be used as a slip-on if you dont do the laces up too tight. Very handy when you wear them to work every day. light weight, splashproof and breath well. On my third pair. Usually last 18 months, about six months more than most shoes Ive tried, worn every day.

  • “Do these shoes provide excellent traction on STEEP, wet and sometimes slick Northwest style trails? I will be wearing a MIR 60lb weighted vest while hiking so stability and traction are very important to me. I attempted this with regular cross training shoes and it was like skiing on mud.”
Asked by Gary from Unknown on 10/11/2011 12:00:00 AM
    • These are better thatn the Typhoon and I take the Wildland Firefighting "Pack Test" in them. 45 lb. vest, 3-miles, under 45 minutes (about 36 for me), now running allowed. I have also had good traction in all conditions with the Typhoon, which has the same sole so I expect these to fill your needs.

  • “I love Asolo boots-- my plantar fasciitis never flares when hiking in them. But I am looking for a shoe that has a full shank or equivalent. Does this have a full nylon or synthetic stiff shank?”
Asked by Dave from Michigan on 9/2/2011 12:00:00 AM
    • The sole and arch of these shoes are pretty stiff, stiffer than my running shoes for example. I have also had plantar fasciitis, but these shoes have never given me any trouble.
