I needed a light hiking shoe narrow in the heel but wide in the forefoot. I have a neuroma issue and the room up front is critical. The sole is suitably stiff and the long lace area allows a "custom" fit. The light blue color is attractive and GoreTex is always a nice feature for when it gets wet. I... Read More

This is the third pair of these shoes I've bought. I love them. They are roomy in the toe box, are supportive and very grippy. Sizing is off. If you look at the Asolo sizing chart in the description, the European sizes listed are the correct size. What is not correct is the US size conversion for the European sizes. I wear a size 37 European. Which is usually a 6.5 in US size. A size 6 in Asolo brand was a 37.5 European and was my correct size. If you go by the European sizes, you will get the right size. You can ignore the US conversion.

I am coming off of 3 years recovery from a ruptured fascia. Then broken toe on the other foot. Then a bad sprain on the first foot, with accessory navicular syndrom complication. SO-- I have been dealing with foot issues for 5 years. I have tried a TON of different shoes during that time. This is my 1st & 2nd purchase of Asolo shoes. I loved them from the first step! I followed advise on other reviews and sized down to a 9 from my usual 9.5. These shoes have a sturdy sole, great support on the inside (arch/navicular bone area) and outside as well. The bonus is the lacing- it allows you to tailor the fit to your foot. This shoe does have a nice wide toe box which is good for me, without being wide at the heel. I got both colors! Waterproof Gortex and Vibram sole are bonus for hiking and walking!

Super comfortable and fit right out of the box. The shoes were true to size and required no break in time. I did swap out the insole for one with the better arch support as other reviewer's had suggested. Nice and trendy looking too. Laces make for all over adjustments if needed. I'm coming off 5 years of foot injuries, so I'm pretty picky.

Item delivered as ordered, just did not fit. Unfortunately I have a very narrow foot and it did not work out. Sierra Trading Post is a pleasure to deal with.

The only reason why I will give this product 2 stairs is because of the size. My wife wears a 37.5 in eu and a 7.5 in us. They do not match up. Their size is a 7.5 is a 40 eu. And a 37.5 Eu is a 7. It is a great shoe but the reason why they are sold at this discount store is this whole line of shoes sizing is off.

    • The back of the shoe from bottom of Vibram sole to the top of the back is 4.25 inches. There is a cloth tape 'tab' on the exterior to pull the shoe up and on. Interestingly, the Cactus boot has the same height in the back, the back is the lowest part of the side/back for the boot whereas for the shoe it is the highest part of the side/back

  • “Would these shoes be too hot for travel in a tropical climate?”
Asked by Cal shopper from California on 12/22/2015 6:36:12 PM
    • They have no mesh to vent.... but they keep water out. If dry is important, good appropriate Socks with vortex is good. It is cold when I used them, and I wore wool.
I love them, they are comfortable.

    • I love them. I hike in them. They're stylish enough to wear around town. But they are pretty heavy duty - thick leather, and vibram soles. If you need them for terrain/hiking they're great, but I imagine your feet would get pretty toasty in the tropics. That said, I'm bringing them to the Keys next week, though I expect I'll be in my Chacos most of the time...

    • Would say yes, too hot for tropics. I don't hike in the tropics but Goretex for me is not the best for hot steamy weather and the shoes's outer layer is somewhat thick, no mesh, only about twenty five small air holes per side.

    • They May be , it depends on what your doing. If your Hiking get some light weight- wicking socks and you should be ok .I found them too be very comfortable in 70 degree weather, on a trip I took to the mountains, but I have Lt. Wt. socks that wick.Hope that helps.

    • These do have mesh vents in them and are waterproof, so that may prove to be beneficial in a tropical climate. However, there is not any type of temperature rating. Most manufacturers do not have temperature ratings for their garments or footwear due to the number of factors that affect how warm a garment may keep you.

    • I think they would be all right; they are extremely lightweight and are cut low enough that I wore mine through pretty hot weather this summer.

    • No I do not think so. think they have nice grip sole for that kind of adventure too. i would recommend adding some type of insole or orthotic to make them fit well to your foot and improve mechanics of walking.

    • I just got back from a 2 week backpacking trip in Costa Rica and these shoes were fantastic! My feet did sweat a small amount in these shoes, but this did not cause any problems. They are very rigid, but flexible. We went on several long distance hikes throughout high and low rainforest environments. The fact that the shoes are waterproof is such a blessing too! In addition to our Costa Rica trip, we live in Colorado. These shoes have proven to be amazing in dry, wet, hot, and cold environments. They are very comfortable and durable! Well worth the money, and I expect these shoes will last me years. My only recommendation would be to wear the shoes out and about a bit before wearing them for any long hikes. As I stated above, they are a bit rigid out of the box, but are easily broken in! I LOVE THEM!!!!

    • I usually wear an 8 1/2. The 8 1/2 in this shoe fits perfectly. I have wide feet as well. One of the best features of this shoe is how adjustable they are for width. If you wear thin socks, you can tighten the laces. If you wear a thick sock, you can open them up a bit. I have some metatarsal problems a lot of shoes aggravate. No these. They are super comfortable. I can recommend these as I am extremely happy with them.

    • I normally wear a size 9 and that is what I ordered. Good fit for me with normal weight hiking socks. I were a B width; there was still some play room to allow for thicker socks. Nice arch support too and I have high arches.

    • I usually wear 8.5 B. I ordered size 8 and fit me very well. Asolo marks size 8 as EU 40, but most of shoes makers will mark EU 40 as US 8.5. I guess 7 might fit for you.

    • These are not really 'narrow' but I would not say they are wide. More just normal. They have a firm feel which I like for hiking and outdoor tasks.
As for size I'd say these are .5 size bigger in length. They are really nice I think you'll be happy. Good luck! I'd order the 7

    • I found the Mantra runs long as I usually wear a 12 and can wear a women's 11 Mantra. I have narrow feet and these were pretty full.
Very comfortable shoe and I like that it is a little more rigid than my Keen's.

    • I wear a size 8 to 8.5 depending on the shoe. Also of note my feet are narrow. I bought an 8 in the Asolo and it fits like a charm. If you generally buy shoes in a wide width then this is probably not the shoe for you. It is generous and comfortable in the toe area (but not so much so that it's slips). The lacing allows for adjustments almost all the way down to the toe which could make this shoe very comfortable for a wider foot. So, if you can generally wear average width shoes then I would take the chance on these shoes. Please note that there is not a lot of "cushion" in these shoes....they are rugged and sturdy for challenging outdoor terrain. Hope this helps;-)

    • I usually wear a 9.5, and my 9.5 Asolo hiking shoes fit perfectly. However, I do not have a particularly wide foot, so I do not know if that would make a difference.
