I originally ordered these in size 10.5, and they were a bit large for me, so I exchanged them for a size 10. They fit me perfectly. European shoe makers often make their products slightly larger (or smaller) than what we are used to here in the U.S. But Sierra is a thoughtful, consumer-friendly ven... Read More

This is my second pair, and right out of the box I hiked 14 miles in them yesterday, with no discomfort and full confidence in their grip on the trail, and their support of my foot. I'll be sad if or when the maker discontinues these.

The long laceable section allows me to snug them to the unique shape of my foot; the suede uppers hide scuffs; the Gore-Tex moisture protection really works; the soles are grippy without being clunky.

I was able to buy my first pair from STP for many dollars less than this latest pair, but even at more than $100, these are a great value.

This shoe is no only good looking but a true fit and comfortable for hiking or everyday use. The full lacing provides a custom fit.

These shoes are really well made, with lots of attention to detail in the pattern, design, materials, etc., and worth trying, even at the relatively high price for STP. However, there are two issues, which others have already pointed out: (1) the shoe is somewhat tight at the front, at the widest part of the foot, even after loosening the laces there; (2) the sole and insole combination used are quite hard, with almost no padding or arch support. (There is a little curve in the sole design that provides a little support that would be OK for those not needing much). For these reasons had to return them. But I would have gone larger if they had that size, and tried them with another insole, with more cushion and arch support. Re: sizing - I tried these in my baseline 'sneaker' size (1/2 size up from dress shoe size) and they still were too tight in the front.

I don't know how these fit anyone. They are so skinny, I could barely get my feet in them. Horrible fitting shoes!

Nice looking shoe. Very grippy and great for scrambling up a stream bed with rounded rocks where the flexible foot bed and sticky lug sole does seem to allow for good grip; but not sure what else it is good for. Was attracted by the design and the knowledge that climbing shoes and good approach shoes have stiff toes which I need just for walking. Yes it is a striking shoe; but not stiff in the toe and the lug sole, which was fine for me, would also make it useless for climbing (my son is a climber). So at least a good walking shoe I thought, but no. The foundation transmits everything, so you feel the lugs pressing into your feet with each step. Hope mine are defective and this is just a mistake; but they fit so well as is, not sure they were not designed this way. Not good for climbing, so so for walking. Even worse for hiking on difficult terrain.

  • “Can you use them with an an orthotic?”
Asked by César from Corralitos, CA on 8/2/2017 11:39:12 AM
    • I don't know. I suspect you can depending upon the fit/size and the type of device you want to use. It is a low cut shoe. I still like the shoe now as much as when I made the purchase.

    • I use Pedag Viva Sport Semi-Rigid Orthotic for Impact Sports with Met Pad and Heel Cushion in mine. They fit fine. The 9 eyelets and position of the shoes allows loosening or tightening to accommodate orthotics, thicker or thinner socks, etcetera. these are my favorite shoes. I have two pairs had them for 6 months and wear them about 3-4 times a week.

  • “I usually wear a 91/2. They don't have my size.
Would a 9 or 10 work in these shoes?”
Asked by Bull Teaser from Grand Rapids on 3/4/2017 7:51:09 AM
    • I would go with the 10. I find them to run close to size. Some other shoes I've purchased at the same time ran a little big to my thinking. These also can be adjusted very tight (smaller) if needed by the lace configuration. Good luck!

    • I think 9 would be too tight. They are sized pretty right but you never know.

    • Try the 10. The 9 is a little tight. Great shoe. I wore it all over Italy. No blisters.

    • I bought the men's size, and they fit me perfectly, with a solid M or "D" width. From my past as a shoe salesman I know that women's feet are narrower than men's, so I suspect that if you bought a men's size you'd find them to be too wide, since, as you say, you have a narrow foot. Women with wide feet and/or short toes can often get away with a men's size, but I don't think this would be a good gamble for you. LOVE these shoes.

    • I ordered several pair of the men's size 13. They fit well with my wide feet. My wife has also ordered a pair of woman's that fit well. If you have a narrow foot, I would suggest ordering a woman's size as the men's may be too wide since they accommodate my wide feet.

    • I've bought (and am wearing) the red. They are in fact red, not orange as photo shows. I'm no color theorist, but I wouldn't call them 'fire red', as the product page does, but rather a slightly duller, darker (burnt...?) red.

(for what it's worth, I like the color)

    • Yes, the tongue is gusseted.
Answered on 6/28/2016 10:42:29 AM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • Yes, the tongue is gusseted, but the gusset stops at the 6th eyelet (counting from the toe, up.
Answered on 6/28/2016 5:07:52 PM by Hill Country Buyer from Austin, TX
    • The tongue is gusseted about half way up. On my size 14's, that's about 3" gusseted and 3" not. Since they're always laced up tight for support I'm not worried about small rocks and I don't wade through streams in them so waterproofing is not an issue. They have proven to be excellent shoes for my moderate hiking and casual wear. Another question was if they're any good for climbing. I don't know but they've been fine for me on ~35 degree approaches with small loose rocks.
