Comfortable right out of the box

Asolo shoes and boots happen to fit me well. They are well made and comfortable immediately. These approach shoes are no exception. They are more supportive than trail hikers, waterproof in a couple of inches of water, have a grippy vibram sole, with shallow cleats that don't attract mud as much as deeper lugs on hiking boots, and are sturdy and well made but fairly light weight. The laces have enough friction to allow differential lacing (for example tight across the instep yet loose in the toes for trail hiking). You can vary the lacing tightness to get comfort or control in all conditions: loose for urban walking, tight toes for scrambling, mixed for trail hiking. There was enough room for adding my plastic runner's arch supports underneath the removable insoles. The color is a bit much, but then bright shoes are the fashion these days.
