Insoles/inserts too small for the shoe?

I bought these shoes to use for a recent backpacking trip in New Zealand. I like to hike in low-top shoes —these are lightweight and I was hoping that the Vibram soles would provide enough support for backpacking. While walking around town prior to our trip I noticed that the insole would slide back and forth within the shoe and my toes would hang over the edge. It was almost like the insole was a half size to small for the shoe. Other than this the shoe seems well-made and comfortable.

- “Great shoes overall, a few things that I hope can help you with your own decisions: the sole by Vibram is not the soft squishy type, it's a bit hard, so I think it would withstand different terrain and elements and wearing them almost every other day they do require breaking in as I read from some reviewers that they did not really find it necessary, which I do differ in that after 2 weeks they are a little softer and not so rigid, perhaps another couple of weeks and they'll be perfect. I have worn them in light rain and seem to withstand the water. These shoes seem very well made and do stand apart from the average pair of hiking shoes.”
