I am worse than my wife when it comes to shoes-my closet is full of Scarpas, Merrels, and Asolos.

I got these to hike in and also to walk to the train and to work here in the NYC area (I wear my ski clothes to work then change into shirt tie at work) and they are totally comfortable of the 4 mile... Read More

It took me several years to wear out my previous pair of Asolo boots, and this one is even better! And the price was unbeatable!

Asolo has done it again, they've made a very comfortable, well fitting, good looking hiking boot. I've got about 35 or 40 miles in these in both wet and dry conditions and I'm very impressed.
They provide great ankle support so hopefully no more rolling of my ankles when I step on a pine cone wrong. The Gore-Tex keeps my feet nice and dry, a big plus as it's been a very rainy summer so far here in beautiful upstate NY.. The Vibram sole stops me from feeling every rock on the trail.
My only complaint is that like every other boot it accumulates pine needles, leaves, twigs, and stones. I literally have to empty my boot before going indoors, but I have this same issue with every boot I've owned.

Asolo's have been the best hiking/backpacking boots that I have purchased over the years, period.
Super tough and have great support. The lining doesn't over heat my feet. They do run slightly narrow. I wear wool blend socks and got the wide fit. Happy trails!

Question & Answer

Questions about this product? Get answers from community and staff experts.

    • Still trying to get the picture. The insole is removable and only provides a small heel cup maybe 1/2" high, so "heel" and "ankle" are confusing. If you WANT the boots to work, try changing insoles, sock weight and lacing. If you have doubts or concerns about the fit of the boot, consider trying a different model. As you see in the reviews, not everyone has found a perfect match, even though overall reviews and customer satisfaction are very good. But if feets ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy ;^)

    • I'm sorry, I probably can't help you. I wear the wide boots, 1/2 side larger and have not had a problem.

    • Hi Willy,
I have not had this experience. I did buy some $50 buck insoles (REI) for the boots, because I run in them and the insole that came with the boot was inadequate.
      Good luck,
      Jamie

    • Purchased my 1st pair on 10/30/2016. I have used them so much that I purchased a second pair for non hiking activities for now until my primary pair wears out. There is no sign of wear thus far and I have used my boots extensively hiking numerous peaks in Alaska. I am a peak bagger traveling from 0-7000ft and as long as I am not running with them they are great. I hike 12 months a year. Winter and spring is with Kahtoolas (micro spikes) for trail ice up/down. No wear noticed anywhere on boots. I wear a mens 9 with regular width and they are true to fit as this is my size for all footwear. On a side note have awful feet with 4 hammer toes that painfully affect my metatarsals and these boots do excellent. Unfortunately when I do long hike/summits for elevations mentioned above and distances 10+ miles round trip, my feet hurt. This is expected with my condition at 50+yrs. I am going to look at some good gel type inserts, but have to do some research. I wear good socks, sometimes calf length and other times ankle length and haven't experience your issue.

I would suggest going to a good store (REI and Skinny Ravens in Anchorage) that have experts to measure your feet properly and try on any Asolo shoes/boots for how they may differ for you from other brands.

PS: I just used my boots Saturday for a solo hike from 100ft to 6398 bagging South Pioneer Peek; 7hrs 5mins for 12miles roundtrip.

      Hope this helps.

    • I would switch to a different model of Asolo other than the Neutron's if your heel doesn't fit but stick with the wide. Have had good luck with Flame and Horizon in wide without having to go up a 1/2 size.

    • I have been using the half size larger for the last 2 pairs I've purchased. I also wear them a few times to break them in, in fact I'm doing it now as my old pair is wearing down. Hope this helps, this has become my preferred boot.
Answered on 6/26/2017 12:06:16 PM by JoeF from Boise, ID
    • I would go with the 1/2 size larger. A lose fitting boot is just as bad a being to tight. A little tight is as ok because they will stretch. But I do think they would take a little while longer to really break them in. I would wear them as often as possible to break them in at least give it a month to do so.

    • This sounds more like an insole issue than a size issue. Have you tried different ones? Details of fit get pretty personal and an aftermarket insole like Superfeet might make the difference to suit your feet. There are also foam inserts that might provide enough cushion to solve this. Fit is another matter -- if it feels good otherwise, you can always fine-tune the fit with sock weight so there's no pressure and no slop.

    • Re-reading your question, there are two different details mentioned. As for the boots "killing your ankles", was this pressure on the front of your ankles? Rubbing at the back of your ankles? Lack of support for your ankles? Most likely it was on the front, which could be a matter of lacing. Try different lacing techniques (google this) as an option. If these are softer boots than what you're used to, you might be over-tightening them to get your feet and ankles to feel secure, possibly because your heels don't fit well.

    • About one inch I believe. I added high arch with extra heel and ball cushion insoles into my boots. Still plenty of room in the toe box and no increase in lace pressure. Maybe slight height increase in heel area with insole but out of the box I would say one inch.

    • It's the fugitives served me well and fit perfect right out of the box, after reading reviews on the neutron Toebox being a little narrow I opted for the wide and that seem to be the perfect fit

    • One of the reasons I like Asolo is the consistency in their sizing. I had a 9 in my old boots (different model). My new boots fit like a glove! Hope you find the same!

    • These are great boots they fit well and true to size, if you're planning on wearing thicker than normal socks I would go a half size larger as these boots are made for action and to be cinched up good and snug

    • I order a half size over and wear mid weight socks, so I would suggest 7-1/2. If you have wide feet, by all means order them in wide, like I do.

    • Hi Rich. I have had 6 or 7 pairs of Osolo boots and all of them have fit true to size even with mid-weight hiking socks and athletic insoles. So if I were you I would go ahead and order the size 7.
