Don't judge when you first put them on. You need a solid 6-9 mile jaunt for a baseline break in. They get better from there. The gore tex is as advertised and the vibram grip and durability is excellent. I moved from a standard hiker and this a bit higher which makes for nice support without being too heavy or obtrusive. I'm a big kid at 6'4" 205 with a sz 13 and it fits true to size (sneaker 13/dress or boot 12) for me with plenty of room on descents. You may want to upgrade the insole later but other than that very impressive in every way. Went on a short hike with my boys with mud n creek xing and he boots were still looking new and clean at the end. Great stain resistance I guess. Do it!
