I was looking for a non goretex version of my favorite boot , Scarpa Kailash GTX and Scarpa does not make one. My girlfriend bought a pair of the Asolo Neutron GTX boots and I was surprised how much they looked like the Scarpas that I had. So I thought I would give the Asolo Neutron (non GTX version) a try.
Overall very nicely made. One tounge has a bit of extra padding in it so it was not tapering at the edge like it was supposed to but I have fixed that... Scalple and thread please!
The fit is almost identical to my Scarpas and I wonder if they both come out of the same Romaian factory. A plus in my book, my feet are on the narrow side so a European made boot fits better.
Break in, started to break these in while working on our property. Two days straight of 6-8 hours in 95°+ degrees with high humidity. Humping logs, cutting wood and carrying, mixing and pouring 30 bags of cement. So at times carrying a lot of weight on very uneven terrain. Feet we not in bad shape after day one, some red/hot spots on each pinky toe. After day two with a slightly thicker sock, no issues or hot spots at all.
The only issue I have had is a little discomfort on the front/inside of my right ankle. Just above the ankle bone. I noticed that it was much less at the end of day two. (I don't blame the boots though, previous busted lower leg.)
The boots were not overly warm for the amount of padding they have. The upper has a lot of fabric so that helps. Very happy about that.
I like the grip of the vibram soles. I'm a vibram sole guy, seems like every non vibram sole I get I don't like.
My only disclaimer regarding the boots it I put in a pair of super feet copper insoles. Low arch, high volume. (Love em)
Time will tell how the boots are at the 100 mile mark. My guess is they will be great. I also can't comment yet how long they take to walk dry.
