I'm 5'9" about 135lbs and typically wear a 33"-36' leg depending on the brand, high wasted. I bought a M to be on the safe side and am ordering another pair in S because these are wonderful. Wearing the M right now in an office with a structured sweater and on first glance pass for wearing knit bla... Read More

The size is overall larger than an actual medium size - returned as there was no way to modify. Too wide in the leg, butt and too long in the crotch - was more of a large than a medium.

I was a little hesitant because so many people complain about these pants pilling almost immediately. I first ordered the coffee, which was the only color available at the time. It's a nice dark brown. The flared leg makes for an attractive look. I'm 5'6" and the length is just right. They're very warm. I use them for around the house or into town rather than hiking or winter sports. I've washed the brown pair about 4 or 5 times now, taking care to wash on cold and line dry, and I've had very little trouble with pilling. I ordered a black pair later when I noticed they'd come in and I'm equally happy with them.

I wear these either solo or with a pair of fleece leggings under them. Of course, I don't ski so perhaps these would fit under a ski suit in the straight leg style, perhaps even the flair style? Just know they are form fitting with lots of seams and definitely not 'wind' resistant if worn alone but they are perfect for my needs. I wear them working outside in the winter around the garden as they are stretchy and comfortable and when combined with a pair of fleece leggings they are perfect for my needs. I like the straight leg best as the flair are a bit on the long side for me (5'4" 128lbs). The straight legs fit inside my boots while the flair is too awkward for tucking and the flair starts too low to wear 'over' tall boots so I wear those with my flat or ankle boots when headed to the store or running errands.

Every chance these roll through STP I grab a few of these. Comfy and warm and stretchy. Great for my morning walks in the winter.

    • No, they don't have petite sizes for this pants. I wish they do because the pants is very long. I had to cut several inches off.

    • You probably need to address that question directly to the Avalanche company. As a customer, I have not seen petite sizes in the Avalanche line.

    • I am 5'4" and 108 lbs. The small fits me. They are long. I think I'd probably go for the large. Hard call.

    • That is tough question, depends upon where she carries her weight. If her mid section is where most of the weight is located then I would suggest the large. As you know there is not a lot of stretch in these pants. So probably the large and if too big a tuck could always be added or exchange for the medium. My hip measurement if about 37 inches if that helps.

    • I am 5'4" and 122 lbs, the medium fits me well. I have a small top and like the waist not tight. If your friend has a larger top and not a large waist line, the medium might fit. If she has a "tummy" then she might need the large.

    • Large! I normally wear mediums (am 5'6" and 135); had to send mediums back because they were too snug for my tastes.
