  • “What is the shelf Life of these "Backpacker Pantry" food packages?

    John ”
Asked by LAJOHN from Los Angeles on 6/24/2018 4:53:14 AM
    • According to the Backpacker's Pantry website:

Pouches: Our new pouches (produced 2017 and later) have an incredible 10-year recommended shelf-life from the date of manufacture. Exceptions are, granola and some other high fat, high dairy content meals which have a 3 or 7 year recommended shelf-life.

      #10 Cans: Products in our #10 cans have a 25-year recommended shelf-life.

Exceptions: Fettuccini Alfredo w/ Chicken and Beef Stroganoff. These two items have a 15-year recommended shelf-life due to their high dairy content.

Factoids: With a nitrogen flush, vacuum seal and included oxygen absorber, cans provide an innovative way to safely and healthily store food for long-term needs. Our in-house chef has ensured that all recipes can stand the test of time. For example, non-fat milk may be used in our #10 cans instead of the whole milk used in pouches to ensure there are no rancidity issues from the high fat content. But for good measure, we even enlisted the help of a trusty food scientist to use their lab gadgets to guarantee our foods are safe, and of course delicious, for you to consume.
