They're not running socks, they're lightweight cotton socks for summer wear, the cotton is incredibly soft, more so after washing. I wear a 8.5 shoe and the 0/S fits. In hot summers, with athletic shoes, these keep your feet from sweating unlike the usual acrylic socks. This is the quality I grew up with, ask your mother or grandmother, or better yet, buy her a pair.
