  • Better Than Live Bait
Reviewed by Mr. Cong from New Jersey on Monday, April 3, 2017
When you do not have Gulp!Alive, live bait is the next best thing, though it is more fragile and does not last as long. With this particular incarnation, the resemblance to a sand eel is uncanny. When rigged to a plain lead-headed jig, it is particularly deadly on fluke ( summer flounder ) and other predatory species in inshore waters, especially at ambush points where these fish congregate. Drop offs, feeder creeks, points ,and areas where currents slow are all candidates for this lure and the aforementioned simple presentation. Using the minimum amount of weight required to reach the bottom, short but quick retrieves will usually draw strikes from these voracious fish. During the early summer when sand eels are abundant, this lure is particularly effective, and easily rates a ' 10 ', or 5 full stars.

About Berkley

The story of Berkley fishing tackle began in 1937 in Spirit Lake, Iowa, when a young Berkley Bedell started selling handmade flies made using hair clipped from the family dog and feathers procured from his backyard chicken coop. Following his service in the Army Air Corps, Berkley returned to Iowa in 1945 and reinvested in making his company a success. Within a few years, the brand began offering nylon-coated wire leaders. Eventually, Berkley fishing lines joined the product offering, including the still-famous, super-strong Trilene line first developed in 1959. From day one, Berkley has been committed to creating the best possible products for anglers all over the world, and that commitment still remains the foundation of the brand today.
