4 Whiskey Camping Cocktail Recipes

Whiskey and camping: they just go together. Sharing a flask of whiskey around a campfire is often seen as one of the classic camping experiences. But what if you prefer your whiskey as part of a tasty, boozy concoction rather than straight up?

If you need to add some "wow" to your whiskey but don't want to pack up the entire bar for your camping trip, we've got the solution. These four camping cocktail recipes featuring whiskey can please a crowd with varying drink preferences. And the best part is they only call for a few easy-to-pack ingredients.

1. Classic Old Fashioned

It wouldn't be right to spout out a list of whiskey cocktails without mentioning the classic old fashioned, so we're leading with it. This old school recipe is bringing it back to the basics. Forget the bitters, forget sweet or sour, forget the cherries or olives. All you need are the three ingredients that started it all: whiskey, an orange slice and a bit of sugar. If you want to add some fizz, a splash of club soda will do the trick.

Whiskey Camping Cocktail Recipe Old Fashioned

Classic Old Fashioned Ingredients

  1. 1 shot of whiskey (or to taste)
  2. 1 orange slice to add to the drink
  3. 1/2 Tbs sugar, or to taste
  4. Splash of club soda (optional)
  5. 1 orange slice for garnish (optional)

How to Make this Whiskey Camping Cocktail

Pour your shot(s) of whiskey into your camping cup. Add sugar and an orange slice (squeezed). Add club soda to your taste and an orange slice garnish if you'd like. Mix. Drink. Enjoy.

2. Whiskey and Coke

We took a staple whiskey mixer and added a backpacking twist. Who wants to carry cola with them when they can use a Nuun tablet instead? That's right, a fizzy, Coke flavored Nuun tablet and water can even substitute soda in mixed drinks. And four out of four campsite cocktail sippers verified that it actually tasted pretty darn close to the real thing. In other words, we rather enjoyed this mixed drink at camp.

Whiskey Camping Cocktail Recipe Whiskey and Coke

Whiskey and Coke Ingredients

  1. 1 shot of whiskey (or to taste)
  2. Half of a Coke flavored Nuun tablet
  3. 8oz water, or to taste

How to Make this Whiskey Camping Cocktail

Place half of a Coke flavored Nuun tablet in your camping cup. Add about 8oz of water and listen to that Nuun tablet fizz. The less water you add, the stronger the Coke flavor will be, so keep this in mind when adjusting to taste. Finally, add the most important ingredient -- whiskey -- stir, and enjoy your camping mixed drink.

3. Whiskey and Sweet Tea

This refreshing cocktail is perfect to sip during a warm, summer evening at camp. Add ice and a camp chair lounger for the ultimate unwinding experience. In this recipe we take advantage water flavor enhancers and their ability to pack a punch while being adorably packable.

Whiskey Camping Cocktail Recipe Whiskey Sweet Tea

Whiskey and Sweet Tea Ingredients

  1. 1 shot of whiskey (or to taste)
  2. Sweet tea flavored water enhancer
  3. Club soda (4-8oz)
  4. 1 lemon slice for garnish (optional)

How to Make this Whiskey Camping Cocktail

Add the shot(s) of whiskey to your camping cup. Pour 4-8oz of club soda into the cup, depending on the size of your drink and how strong you'd like for it to be. Add the sweet tea flavored water enhancer. Be sure to read instructions for your specific flavored water enhancer so you know how much to add. I've found that just a dab will do it; these things are strong and you can always add more after you give your drink a taste. To class things up a bit you can squeeze some lemon into your drink and add a lemon slice as a garnish.

Whiskey Lemonade

Another refreshing drink on a hot summer night, this take on whiskey lemonade also uses a flavored water enhancer. You can mix with water for the classic lemonade feel, but we like to use club soda to add some fizz to this campsite mixer.

Whiskey Camping Cocktail Recipe Whiskey Lemonade

Whiskey Lemonade Ingredients

  1. 1 shot of whiskey (or to taste)
  2. Lemonade flavored water enhancer
  3. Club soda (4-8oz)
  4. 1 lemon slice for garnish (optional)

How to Make this Whiskey Camping Cocktail

Pour the shot(s) of whiskey to your camping cup. Add 4-8oz of club soda or water into your cup, depending on how strong you prefer your drinks. Add a squirt of lemonade flavored water enhancer. Read instructions for your specific flavored water enhancer to learn how much you need to add. If you'd like, you can garnish your drink with a lemon slice.

Bonus: Whiskey with Sweet Tea and Lemonade

If you've already packed the iced tea and lemonade flavored water enhancers, you can mix the two together and add a shot of bourbon whiskey to create a whiskey with sweet tea and lemonade. This delicious drink makes for the perfect summer campsite sipper.
