Packing for an outdoor trip can be a chore, so it's always nice to take any opportunity available to limit the number of items you need to pack. This waterproof camp pillow does exactly that. To create this waterproof camp pillow, just take the soft items you plan on bringing with you and stuff them into a dry bag...Yep, it's that simple!
The dry bag pillow is the most comfortable pillow I've used while backpacking. I've tried several different options but the dry bag has been the best. It fits perfectly in the head of my sleeping bag so that it doesn't slide around throughout the night. The thickness of the dry bag is very similar to the height of my pillow at home which means it feels very natural. On the John Muir Trail my tent collapsed due to heavy rain and wind and everything I had became saturated with water. Ever since that situation I have put all my extra layers in a dry bag. After placing my items in the dry bag on several trips, I found out by accident that it made a great pillow. It helps me sleep well due to its comfort, but I also have peace of mind knowing that I'll never be in a situation where all my gear gets soaked at once. Water, Drool, - this pillow keeps your gear dry through everything. Lastly, the dry bag allows you to compress each of the items inside which means that it frees up some additional space in your backpack.
I personally throw all my extra layers and clothing into my dry bag before I go to bed. These items include my down jacket, waterproof jacket, waterproof pants, base layer, storm-proof matches and an extra pair of socks.
