5 Tips for Making Camping Fun
1. Choose a Family-Friendly Camping Spot
When we plan a car camping trip, we always try to plan around fun daytime activities. Be sure to choose a camping spot that has something fun to do all day long. We like to camp on lakes or rivers that have lots of hiking trails. The kids can explore the water, build sandcastles and skip rocks during down time, then we can all go on family hikes together to break up the day.
2. Bring Some Friends
We all have more fun if we go camping with a group. Ask another family with similar aged kids to join you. The kids can all play together and keep each other occupied much longer than if it is just your family.
3. Bring Plenty of Luxury Items
Car camping isn't about roughing it. Bring the items you'll need to keep everyone comfortable and bring plenty of games and activities for the kids. Be sure to Bring These Five Car Camping Luxury Items.
4. Listen to Your Kids Needs
Forget about the agenda and be flexible to make sure everyone has fun. If your kids have never been camping before, they may have trouble adjusting to a weekend in the outdoors. Reward them with treats, some electronic play if necessary or just spend time playing with them. Your kids will tell you what they need or want, be flexible and keep it fun.
5. Be Sure to Play
Let's face it, car camping is a lot of work. You've got to pack the car, plan the meals, set up tents and camping equipment and you've got to cook and clean in the outdoors. So keep it fun by playing plenty of family games with your kids. We usually bring a soccer ball, a Frisbee, Mad Libs and a few other games to play around the campsite. Try Nature Bingo or any other outdoor activity to keep your kids occupied and playing in the outdoors.
If you follow these 5 tips for making camping fun, you're sure to enjoy a weekend of camping with your family. Remember to keep it fun and comfortable for everyone. You'll build some great family memories that will keep everyone asking when you can go camping again.
