Spring Skiing: Top Reasons to Ski This Spring

Temperatures are beginning to rise and many people are looking forward to cycling, swimming and outdoor camping trips but don't forget about spring skiing. Spring is a great time to go skiing or snowboarding. There is plenty of late season snow to enjoy before you start to put your ski gear away.

Top Reasons to Try Spring Skiing

The weather is warmer- Forget about those freezing cold winds that always seem to blow when you are on the chair lift. In spring skiing, the daily temperatures are warmer and usually it's sunny. You can shed a layer and enjoy a full day of skiing or snowboarding without feeling the need to get out of the cold.

The snow is softer- Spring weather makes for great snow conditions. Ski resorts still receive many big snowstorms in March and April and a full seasons worth of base snow is starting to soften up. You'll find that on a good spring afternoon the snow becomes softer and much more forgiving than the hard icy conditions you may have encountered during your December ski vacation.

Save some money-  Ski lift ticket prices begin to fall after President's Day weekend. While you could break the bank trying to take a family skiing over the Christmas break, in March many ski resorts lower their ticket prices to make it much more affordable.

In addition to lower daily lift ticket prices, you may also find deals on lodging this time of year. Check with your local resort as they may be offering some amazing deals. For example, Eldora Mountain Resort is offering free skiing for the remainder of this season if you buy a season pass for next season. End of Season Events- Do you enjoy the après-ski as much as the skiing itself? Well, spring skiing may be for you because many top ski resorts have music festivals and other types of events in the spring and for closing weekends. I've seen some of my favorite bands perform at spring music festivals such as Copper Mountain's Sunsation festival. These free music festivals are a fun way to celebrate the end of a great season of skiing.
