Nice boots, but not exactly comfy (at least not yet)

I strongly believe that life is too short to spend even one hour in uncomfortable shoes, knowing that it is possible to get boots that feel good out of the box (e.g., Ugg, Frye). And so it is with some reluctance that I am leaning toward keeping these even though they will require what is euphemistically called "breaking in." They rub uncomfortably on my ankle bone (one boot is much more severe than the other, for some reason), but I am trusting that they will stretch enough -- or that I can have them stretched -- so that they will ultimately live up to their potential. On the plus side, they are a nice looking dark red color, with no obvious flaws (other than coming in a plastic bag rather than a shoe box), and are easy to get on and off. I was worried that I couldn't size up, which I usually try to do with boots to accommodate thicker socks, but -- other than around my ankle bone -- my usual size fits well.
