I got this rod as a replacement for a six weight I broke. Redington has an excellent warranty. They sent this model as my old one was out of production. While it us a fast action rod it works well for me as an intermediate caster. A casting instructor casted it and deemed it fairly fast action and a great value for the price of $99.

Just got into fly fishing this year, and this has been a good rod to learn on. I'm also into hiking and backpacking, so it's great to have a compact rod that fits into my gear easily. Comes ready to go, which is helpful when just starting out and learning the finer points of line set-up. The reel has a tendency to catch on one of the groves, but if your conscious of keeping the line tight when reeling, not insurmountable. Overall, a good beginner's rod and can become your 'backpacking' rod when you upgrade.

This is a great rod. Had the chance to try it on a lake, great fast action covering long distances in a short amount of casts. This is more for the experienced fly fisherman. It's a bummer that this model is discontinued but a good fishing rod can last you a lifetime. Didn't hesitate to buying this, it will be part of my fishing adventures from now on.

This rod combo seems to be just what I wanted. It is the second Redington rod I've purchased the first being a 3/4 weight which I really enjoy, and this one, though being an 8 weight seems to be every bit as enjoyable. Will hopefully be trying it on freshwater stripers in a couple of months, and I'm really looking forward to testing the rod on those bruisers.

This rod comes with a decent warrant from Reddington which make reliable products. The rod itself is an 8wt to be used for salmon in the lower Niagara river and is capable of saltwater fishing because if the anodized aluminum. I wish it was a 4pc instead of 2 for traveling purposes but it was on sale at STP for $75 for rod , reel and case. The reel is ok as far as construction...all cast aluminum and seams it would last a few years. The drag is some thing I would watch for ...small salmon or steelhead I think it would be suffice but a large chinook or saltwater bonefish might show the drags true colors. I think for the price considering they preload the reel with Rio Mainstream Fly line is a bargain. Buy it learn with it, use it as a backup because some people just can’t afford a $2000 fly rod from the get go
