Not up to the usual standard

The last time I bought Bridgedale socks from this website was over 5 years ago--summer 2007. I bought 4 pairs back then, and I've worn them daily ever since (for hiking, sure, but also for everything else) except in blazing hot barefoot weather. They've done really well, but 3 of those pairs are now beyond darning. So I asked for replacements as a Christmas present this year.

And yay, 'my' socks were still pictured on this site--the original blue and tan ones with nothing written up the side, not to be found anywhere else! They're not pictured now, but they definitely were when the order went in.

What turned up here was a parcel full of the blue socks with 'trek' in red up the side. These are nowhere near as cushioned or as warm as the socks I thought I was getting. They only have a 41% wool content. They're good, but they're nothing like as good as the ones I had before.

I would avoid these 'trek' ones. The 'trekker' ones are woolfusion (42% wool) and are probably thicker, better cushioned and more durable. But I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of importing them, I can get those here in the UK.

I shall go away and weep for the wonderful blue/tan Bridgedale hiking socks that don't appear to exist anywhere in the world any more :(
