these are the same as they were 20 years ago as far as I can tell. A good basic lockback design, sharp blade that stays sharp, in a good size to do some serious work and small enough to carry in a pants pocket. the original version, with a maroon nylon like handle, was had a better handle in my opinion, but this one has more surface variation and isn't slippery when wet as the original was. The new one isn't as attractive, in fact it looks cheap at first glance, but the performance factors far outweigh the appearance. I actually prefer to carry this over my $75 Kershaws as I keep losing those and haven't lot one of these yet a they are not slippery. These are a great buy and a practicalknife.
