Most Helpful 5-Star Review
Reviewed by Little Cottonwood from Salt Lake City on Wednesday, December 11, 2013These boots are sick, sick, sick. I wore them for about 4 hours over two days to let them break in and took them to the mountain the next day -- numerous compliments from lift operators, lodge bunnies and shredders. Skiiers even said, "if I boarded, those would be the boots I would wear." Totally blown away by the effect they have on people and even more by the way they feel. Burton and Red Wing would do themselves a solid if they brought the original look of these boots back. I'm meh about the newer model. I've been up to Snowbird about half the season this year (2013) and these boots rock. I'm a true 12D -- these boots are true to size. I have them strapped into K2 Formula Bindings (Large), on an Arbor Formula 155 for what it's worth.
Reviewed by Yianni from Tuxedo Park, NY on Tuesday, December 3, 2013These boots seem very well made and were comfortable and relatively light but too bulky to fit into my bindings.
When I opened the box and took these boots out I was impressed with the quality of the leather and stitching. I found that they run small so my initial order,10.5, had to be returned in favor of a larger size, 11.5. When the larger size arrived I put them on and was impressed by their comfort. The Imprint 4 liner is very supportive and easy to tighten and loosen using the speed lacing system. However the outer boot has entirely too many laces to tighten, it is a major pain in the A**.
Once the boots were on I found they looked much bigger than my old snowboard boots. I think this was due to the very flat outsole being wider than the upper boot, just like in a work boot. However due to the extra height and width of snowboard boots, it gives them a "Frankenstein" look.
Ultimately the looks were not the deal breaker, but the fact that I couln't get them to woork with my bindings was. I tried two different style bindings and neither worked well. Flow bindings (rear entry) were bad as the upper toe was too tall and would get caught on the binding. The oversized outsole was the biggest issue as it was too wide to slide into the binding base and really had to be kicked into place, then the back plate didn't clear the heel as it was being lifted into place. It could be forced over the heel but not something to do multiple times a day. I tried traditional style bindings and found the toe too tall for the toe strap. I could close it but with difficulty and only a few clicks, I was worried that it might not hold. The outsole was also very wide and I had to be very precise when positioning my feet or else I couldn't get the bindings closed.
I never got to ride them but I imagine that if I could get them to work with a binding the outsole will most likely drag due to the toe and heel overhanging the board.
They look unique and that's what drew my attention but they don't seem like a good design. To that end the new Rover Limited boots are much closer to a traditional snowboard boot design for good reason.
I'm disappointed with these and they are being returned.
Reviewed by Jonathan from New York on Sunday, July 21, 2013I bought a pair of these entirely based on the looks, assuming Burton and Redwing could do no wrong.. and I was correct. A very good compromise between old-school lacing and strong, modern support. I could not be more happy. I primarily ride on the east coast, (so mainly ice) on a burton vapor, with which the boots have provided an excellent level of comfort and control. Buy with confidence!
