I do not cook in backcountry. I use hot water to reconstitute or eat cold. This stuff requires cooking, per instructions. I tried fixing this at home, soaking it in boiling water in an insulated container. After a long, long time it reached a consistency that was edible. Not sure what happened to the flavor, but I could not find any. I will pay a little more and enjoy my freeze dried food in about 10 minutes.
