Customer Reviews Of:
CamelBak Fourteener Hydration Pack - 100 fl.oz.

Closeouts. CamelBak's Fourteener hydration pack is supportive enough for technical day hikes and maintains a low-profile fit. The N.V.I.S back panel provides excellent ventilation and the 100 fl.oz. Antidote Reservoir makes refilling a breeze.

I've been hiking with an old, single compartment, sturdy pack, and realized I needed a better way to carry water in New Mexico. Friends suggested a Camelbak, and I bit! Love the ability to carry 3 liters of water with me and drink from the Camelbak fountain.
But. . . The pack has taken a bit to fit to my frame, short-ish (5'4"), long waisted. My suggestion to Camelbak (and/or Sierra Trading Post) is to have a fitting video available! I've never used such a pack, and the first time I placed it on my back was a bit horrific, with the shoulder straps riding up to my ears. I had to reach out to friends who have used such packs to get some lessons in fitting, with the correct weight distribution and and directional strap pulling! I finally figured out how to pull the pack snug against my frame, with a correct pull on the straps (out, not down).
There are many pockets and pouches to store items needed on a day hike; I especially appreciate the layers of pouches climbing up the back of the pack, and the various loops and elasticized holders for trekking poles, etc.
I do find that the main compartment doesn't hold as much as I might like, but then perhaps I over pack for day hikes, anticipating them to turn into longer excursions if the weather should turn, and such. I always bring food.

The hydration pack works very well and, after an initial filling with lemon-spiked water, had no residual "plastic" taste. The zippers work smoothly, the fabric is strong ( I haven't used it much, yet) and the waist belt and sternum belt are great supports. I especially enjoy the ventilation from the NVIS back panel after having my old pack rest "sweat-ingly" against my back! Sierra Trading Post shipped correctly and in good time.

Other than trying to find tips on fitting (both Camelbak and Sierra Trading Post), I'm very satisfied with the Fourteener Hydration Pack. I take mostly day trips, 5-10 miles, moderate to challenging, in the mountains of New Mexico with friends and dogs. Have not taken any overnight trips lately, so I don't know how this pack would work carrying sleeping gear.

I love this daypack! Although it is a bit heavier than I wanted, once I started using it, I can see why and I totally appreciate all it's convenient features. The back panel is awesome. I got it because my previous daypack was just too small. With this, I can carry everything I need to be gone all day long, and then some. And it is SO easy to use: I can get to every section with ease! I was very thoughtfully put together.

This is a good monkey to have on your back. Plenty of h2o and plenty of packing space. The aero design for creating flow over your back works nice.
