The item is hefty and impressive in its ruggedness. I have withheld the fifth star rating because the description did not make it clear to me that the intended purpose is to be part of a system to protect persons workng at heights from the danger of falls. The device is not well suited for climbing applications.
The strap is double thickness, sewn together, 1-3/4" wide, making it stiff. As such, it is unsuitable for attaching a typical climbing carabiner directly to the strap. The strap would need a well rounded surface to encircle if it is used as an anchor point. Perhaps that could work around the base of a tree, but no larger than approximately 8" diameter. Using it to extend a typical climbing anchor introduces carabiners at each end that will likely compromise the 35 kN rating of the device itself. And it is heavy enough that it wouldn't be carried on a "just in case"basis".
All that said, I will keep it for working on trees and roofs. It's a bargain at the STP price.
