Great vest, odd fit

I love Carhartt products, from pants to gloves, hats and jackets. Tough as nails and the fit is usually great. Two recent purchases, including this vest, have me wondering about that fit..... First I got a rancher coat in large. It is awfully big in the waist, and the drawstring is way too high. I like it, but the fit is nowhere near as "just right" as my 15 year old Detroit jacket. Now I get this vest. The fit is fine, size-wise, but the cut is kinda odd. Very short waisted. The bottom front zipper barely reaches my waist. I am 6', 185#. The quality is top notch, with a comfortable sandstone canvas outside and a fuzzy Sherpa lining. I especially like the mock neck. It goes all the way up to keep out the wind, unlike many Carhartt jackets that have zippers that stop at the collar. So, bottom line, I like the vest, but I am starting to wonder about what is going on with the way Carhartt is cutting/sizing it's outerwear.
