What I was looking for

Unlike many other Carhartt products the size small actually fits like a small. I am 5'6", size 2/4 with wide shoulders, long torso and arms and have had problems with Carhartt stuff being cut for much larger women regardless of the label size, with only the overall dimensions getting shorter as the size gets smaller. No such problems with this one - it's cut appropriately for a size small female frame so I don't look like the Michelin man or like I'm wearing my boyfriend's coat, but still have adequate room to move and wear layers.

This is on the heavier end as midweight jackets go, with fleece lining in the body, collar and hood but blanket lining in the sleeves. To go below about 20*F or in our usual cutting New Mexico wind I'll put another warm layer underneath. Durability is up to usual Carhartt standards (unlike a few cheaper items I have bought from them recently). I expect it to perform well during fishing, shooting, all the usual outdoor activities where the only shelter around is my coat and a pretty city coat would get roughed up. And the phone/earbuds slot is a nice bonus.

Styling - I recieved the blue-gray fleece lining and like it more than I expected to. It's prettier than shown. The good feminine cut makes it appropriate with outdoor, work, or casual Western wear when you want to look well put-together without being dolled up.

As far as the 2nd quality, the issue on my coat is a small scrape in the surface of the fabric on the underside of the collar that caused minor fraying. It's not visible except when I'm removing or attaching the hood and didn't get worse in the washer. This type of quality issue is well worth the value.
